Second take on the DS 600 - 6 months into using this unit daily, Verdict: Exceptional value and sound quality. The better the source quality the more you'll appreciate this units sound quality no matter if it's Phone streaming, TV/ Movie optical sound, USB input, Coax - all sound great to my ears. (I'm outputting through 90's NAD Pre/ Amp into Mirage speakers - Nice analog sleepers.)
Bluetooth stability is probably the only weakness here and is good when direct and unobstructed but is less reliable for maintaining stellar output when obstructions (walls, RF interference, Appliances etc) are in the signal path.
I've read in others reviews some complaints with the headphone Amp sound quality and output strength. Just have to say that with Phillips 9500 (32 ohm) and Beyers 770 Pro (80 Ohm) no problem driving these with fine sound quality but with 600 ohm sets not a good match. For that level of resistance you need a headphone amp designed for high impedance cans.
Bottom line: If you want high quality on the relative cheap the features/performance available with the DS600 is all that. It's technically the equivalent of a Topping D-50-S with the addition of it's Headphone output - and frequently available at a sale price that makes it too good to pass up.
Lavaudio DS600 Desktop DAC
Designed as a desktop portable DAC, this unit delivers some impressive sound in each application I use it for. Bluetooth streaming from phone sounds better than expected -given the inherent limitations of Bluetooth connections but with it's 5.0 version Qualcomm chip - it gets the job done with a Hi-Fi result (LDAC capable phone in use).
As a DAC taking signal from my PC through the USB the sound is again as good as I could have hoped for. It scales up in resolution depending on source.
Designed for desktop many will use it as a headphone amp. It delivers a good sound here as well through my Phillips 9500 neo mag cans. For me, who uses headphones a few times a month, it is all I would ever want - Very quiet with a nearly flat sounding output - wide soundstage, no fatigue and very enjoyable.
Highlights: ESS Sabre 9038 chips. Qualcomm Bluetooth chip, Compact size, Optical, USB, Coaxial inputs, Solid metal housing, quality switches, volume control on unit, handy remote executes all functions well, nice quality headphone output drives 32 ohm cans with ease. Several filtering options.
This is a very capable DAC, Bluetooth receiver, Headphone amp that produces Hi-Fi quality results in it's small package.
I love mine and feel it delivers more than expected at a very reasonable price.
